Waller County is best known as a great place for hunting migratory game birds such as geese and duck. For years the rice and corn fields throughout the county have provided rich feeding grounds attracting game birds during annual migration.
Waller County is located just west of Houston. Even though Houston has grown toward Waller County, we still have many great hunting spots. The rice fields, large stock ponds, and the natural drainage system provide many wet areas to attract and hold migratory game birds during the hunting season. Central Flyway
Of the four migratory flyways from Canada to the southern US coastline, the Central Flyway is a major flyway as migratory game birds make their way to the warm coastal waters of Texas and on toward Mexico. This places Waller County at the northern end of the major roosting areas and along one of the main migration paths each year.
